Serious about Serums

People often ask if a skin serum really is worth investing in, or is it just a fancy word for another moisturiser.   To be completely honest, before I worked in the beauty industry myself, I never realised the importance of applying what’s very often an oily, gelish looking liquid onto my face, whatever benefits it promised.

As someone who struggles between my skin looking too oily or too dry, a good moisturizer seemed like a realistic and feasible option to control the oily or dry look and serums were the last thing I would ever have thought of using.

However, having been “skin educated” in recent years, I have now become a dedicated serum user and seeing huge improvements in my skins texture and appearance in this time, I could now never be without.

Serum tends to be more liquid like in substance than moisturizers so this means it permeates the skin more quickly and much more deeply – immediately plumping, hydrating and softening the surface of your skin.  They are simple to use and can change how your skin looks and feels almost instantaneously.

Iluma Intense Lightening SerumAs the old saying goes, very often less is more and over applying too much serum can result in an over-oilified face, which is not something many of us need or want.  Once you get into the swing of using a serum, you will soon figure out how much is too much for you.

Always follow your morning application with a Daily SPF such as Image Skincare Prevention+, especially after using a lightening serum.  For night time follow with one of our active repair creams, such as the Vital C Hydrating Repair, or my favourite, the MAX Cream.

Much like a hair conditioner, I personally find that using the same serum day in day out over a long period of time does not have the same effect it did on week one.   I alternate between two different serums – the new Iluma Intense Lightening Serum for daytime and the Vital C Hydrating Anti-ageing Serum for night but re-address this as the need arises – especially if on a course of Image Skincare treatments.

What works for one person, may not be the most effective for another persons skin concerns.  The serums I use work wonders for me, but your Image Skincare therapist will be able to recommend the products best suited to addressing your skin concerns in the most effective way.

Pro Tip_Vital C Serum and EnzymeIt’s another great thing about serums, they deliver essential nutrients and address very specific skin concerns and Image Skincare has a wide range to choose from so you can be guaranteed to find the right serum for your concern.

Realistically some serums can seem pricey at first in comparison to a moisturizer, especially when it contains such active ingredients, as Image Skincare’s products do.  But considering you only need pea size amount (or a couple of drops for liquid options) to cover your entire face, it lasts at least 6 months with consecutive use, so in fact it a very worth while investment.

Contact your local Image Skincare stockist today and book a skin consultation so that they can advise you what will work best for you.
